Get ready for road work Monday night on Highway 252 as resurfacing begins. Northbound 252 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. In two weeks the same work will be done on southbound lanes.
Thanks to multiple traffic lights, there is already a daily hassle factor on 252, and for the next five weeks the road will gum up even more because of these lane closures.
"It will really back up all of our traffic coming through," said Mark Knutson of Maple Grove. "Normally about a 10 minute drive will push you back about a half hour to get through it."
Knutson works for Central Package in Brooklyn Center and is bracing for delays and detours.
"It's going to make it a little harder for our trucks to get in," Knutson said. "Delaying our customers and delaying our deliveries to everybody we go to."
Highway 252 is a crucial link between I–694 and Highway 610. Because of the heavy volume of traffic, some drivers avoid the road altogether.
"Because of the stoplights," said Sherry Brewer of Brooklyn Park. "The traffic goes pretty fast and I am afraid of accidents because of the traffic stops."
